EDG GGDC SDGQ Code of Ethics

CA14 enjoys working with customers who understand the value added to professional marketing communications services when the team includes credentialed professionals. Tiziana Manierka, RGD and Peter Perko, RGD obtained their credentials following graduation from a recognized graphic design program by joining the Association of Registered Graphic Designers. Now their credentials have become increasingly valuable to the people they work with and their customers because the three recognized graphic design associations in Canada have a common Code of Ethics.

In November, the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD), Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC), and the Société des designers graphiques du Québec (SDGQ) has adopted the joint Code of Ethics currently being used by RGD and GDC. By following the same Code of Ethics,” the three associations are setting professional and ethical standards for graphic design professionals across Canada.

When interviewing representatives of marketing communications firms to determine if there is a fit with their business, entrepreneurs should ask about the credentials of the team that would work with them and ask to see Codes of Ethics that govern their professional services and behaviour.

The common Code of Ethics has consideration for:

  • Responsibilities to the organization
  • Responsibilities to the profession and other members/designers
  • Responsibilities to clients and employers
  • Responsibilities to society and the environment
  • Responsibilities regarding competition and fees
  • Responsibilities related to the intellectual property of the designer
  • Responsibilities related toward the intellectual property of others
  • Responsibilities of employers
  • Responsibilities of educators
